If you have been asked to attend a medical examination with Dr Syed Hassan, this page explains what happens.
Dr Syed Hassan is a GP (GMC 7554136, MRCGP) and an independent medical expert accredited by MedCo (DME9367). He has been instructed to examine you and prepare a medical report about your injuries for your claim.
He is not your solicitor and not your treating doctor. He cannot give you legal advice, tell you what your claim is worth, or recommend a solicitor or claims company.
You will receive a confirmation with the date, time and address, what to bring, and what the appointment involves. If you do not use email, we will phone you and post it to you.
Tell us if you need any help — an interpreter, step-free access, extra time, or anything else. There is no charge for this. Dr Hassan speaks English, Urdu and Punjabi; for other languages we arrange a professional interpreter.
The appointment takes about 30 minutes. Dr Hassan will:
You may bring someone with you, ask for a chaperone, ask questions at any time, or stop the examination at any time.
The fee for an initial report is £226 plus VAT. Under the Official Injury Claim process, the insurer dealing with your claim pays for the first report. You are not asked to pay for it.
Please tell us at least 24 hours beforehand if you can. There is no charge if you miss an appointment or need to change it — we will simply arrange another.
Your report is usually ready within one to three working days of your appointment and is sent through the claims process.
If a fact in it is wrong — a date, or a symptom you told us about that is missing — tell us and we will correct it. Dr Hassan cannot change his medical opinion simply because you disagree with it, but he will consider any new medical evidence.
We keep your information securely and use it only for your claim. Our privacy notice explains your rights, how long we keep it, and how to complain to us and to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Contact us by telephone, email or post. We will acknowledge your complaint within 3 working days and give you an answer within 20 working days. If you are still unhappy you can contact MedCo, and the General Medical Council in relation to professional conduct.
